I've been looking for a new long-term photo project, something creative to do just for fun. I had a bunch of ideas, but the ones that excited me were either too time consuming (I have a schedule full of family, church, work, the occasional basketball game, and more), too cliché, too "common" or just too ambitious.
Finally, I came up with something simple, at least relatively unique, could be done in small bits of time, and offers great creative freedom. I'm still working out the specifics of the rules I'm going to set for myself, but here's what I've got so far:
1. Make one image per week, starting in January 2013 and completing in December 2013, for a total of 52 images over 52 weeks.
2. Each image will be of a house/address number in some fashion.
3. The image must contain the entire house number. So no taking a picture of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and cropping to just show the "1" for example.
4. The numbers will be, in order, 1-52. So, the first week, I'll find a building with a house number of "1", week two, house number "2" and so on.
5. The image *must* be taken during the specified week, then processed and posted to my Flickr account by the last day of the week following.
6. For the purposes of this project, weeks start on Tuesday and end on Monday. The extra day in December will be tacked on to week 52.
Open questions:
- What constitutes a "house number"?
- Are apartment numbers fair game?
- Does it have to be a residence, or are businesses allowed?
- Does the image have to be just the number, or can I incorporate the building into the image too?
